Description

Beetroot Idli, Mango Idli, Spinach Idli, Idli is a famous dish of South India..Kids luv to eat them.

Ingredients

Serves : 4
  • 600 gms rawa or sooji


  • 1 bowls curd


  • 1 tsp salt


  • 1 tsp soda


  • 1 tsp eno salt if required

Directions

  • For idlis, we have to make the batter first. In a mixing bowl take rawa by adding the curd..mix it very well so that lumps cannot be formed.now add salt and water.mix it again.see the consistency if required than add more water to it.now again mix it..keep it aside for 1 to 2 hours..divide it into 3 portions..
  • For Beetroot Idli : Take 2 beetroots.peel it, chopp and boil it in a little bit water.now if there is more water then drain the water and keep the water aside.now grind the beetroot to make the pulp..now take 1 portion of the batter.add this beetroot pulp and little bit salt to it..mix it very well so that both are combined to each other.see that it is fermented.if not then add half tspn of eno salt to it.
  • Now heat the idly vessel by pouring half glass of water in it because we need to steam..now put 1 or 2 scoop of batter on the moulds .keep it inside the vessel for steaming..after 15 to 20 mins check it by putting knife inside the idlis.if the knife comes clean that means it is done or cooked.remove it from the vessel.let it cool down for 2 mins..now remove it from the moulds. Its ready to serve with coconut chutney or kids may like it with ketchup too..
  • For Mango Idli : Take 2 ripe mangoes.peel, chopp and grind it to make the pulp.do not add water. Now take the 2nd portion of the batter. Add Mango pulp and little bit salt to it.mix it very well so that both are combined to each other properly.and to make the idlis same is the process as we have made Beetroot Idlis...serve it with green or coconut chutney.
  • Spinach Idli : Take a small bunch of spinach..wash and boil it.make a fine paste without water.now add this paste to the 3rd portion of the batter.add little bit salt if required as spinach has it own.mix it so that it is combined properly..now to make idlis..same process as have done in upper two recipes .serve it with coconut chutney.
